A number of communities in the forestlands controlled by Jari have based their economic activities on extracting natural products from the Amazon rainforest for many years.
Keenly aware of the social problems assailing this region, Jari supports the establishment and development of extractivist cooperatives marketing Brazil nuts and açaí fruit. Setting up partnerships that will enhance the value of these products, it also provides technical assistance through its professional staff.
Additionally, Jari is also implementing a Rural Communities Program in the Jari region that is designed to encourage and provide technical assistance for planting subsistence crops - particularly fruit and vegetables - that will upgrade the nutritional levels of local communities.
